Sqeezer / Squash

Category: Web Development Optimization Tools
notion image
Squeezer is a powerful tool designed for web developers who need to optimize their web files with ease. It’s a Mac application that offers several key features to enhance your development workflow. Here’s what makes Squeezer stand out:
  • Minify, Compile & Compress: The core functionality of Squeezer is to minify, compile, and compress web files and images. This includes support for HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and various preprocessor languages like LESS, Sass, SCSS, and TypeScript, among others.
  • Batteries Included: This tool requires no additional installations or setups. It’s ready to go right after you download it, providing an ‘out of the box’ experience.
  • Drag-and-Drop Interface: Squeezer comes with a user-friendly interface that allows you to drag and drop files or folders for processing, making it incredibly straightforward to use.
  • Fast: Efficiency is key in development, and Squeezer delivers speed that can significantly cut down on wait times when processing files.
  • Real-time Watching: Beyond one-time processing, Squeezer can ‘watch’ your files and apply changes in real-time as you work on them, streamlining your development process.
As someone in the web development field, I find the convenience of Squeezer’s drag-and-drop functionality paired with its wide range of file support to be a real time-saver. It removes the hassle of setting up multiple tools for different types of files.
The one-time purchase price seems reasonable for what the software offers, especially when you consider the time saved in your daily workflow. If you often work with a variety of web files and need a speedy optimization tool, Squeezer might be the perfect fit for your Mac toolkit.

MacClean360

Category: System Utilities / Optimization and Cleaning Tools
notion image

MacClean360 is very similar to CleanMyMac X (see my previous review), which I reviewed in this article.
It has very similar features, including the following cleaners: junk cleaner, uninstaller, duplicate file finder, and large/old file cleaner.
It also includes a memory manager, startup item manager, internet cleaner, and file shredder.
MacClean360 is cheaper than CleanMyMac, but CleanMyMac offers more features and runs more smoothly and reliably in my tests. MacClean360 constantly asks for my password whenever I run it, which is annoying.
Price: $59.00 for a lifetime license, $19 for 1 month, or $39 for a year.

App Cleaner & Uninstaller

Category: System Utilities / Optimization and Cleaning Tools
AppCleaner and Uninstaller is macOS utility that specializes in just cleaning and uninstalling.
It makes it really simple. For example, disabling programs from starting up involves simply switching it off.
notion image

It’s very fast. I found apps that were starting up when my system booted up that were no longer used. I simply uninstalled them with the click of a virtual switch.
Using it to disable startup items is a pleasant experience: quick and easy.
The “Remaining Files” feature allows me to quickly delete orphaned files. These were missed by CleanMyMac (see my previous review)and MacCleaner360.
I love the “Open With” feature that allows me to quickly change the app that opens a particular file extension.
notion image

Easier than the other tools I’ve used, including CleanMyMac and MacCleaner360.
Its single function allows it to run much more smoothly when uninstalling software. Whereas CleanMyMac takes a while just to provide a list of apps to uninstall, AppCleaner and Uninstaller does it almost instantaneously, providing a high-level view of the items it intends to remove.
It is more thorough at finding files to clean than the more expensive CleanMyMac.

Speedcut

Category: Graphic Design Software
SpeedCut is a refreshing solution for designers and marketers who frequently need to create clean cutouts for their projects but don’t want to dive into full-fledged photo editing tools.
Its integration into the menu bar makes it a convenient option, allowing for quick edits without interrupting your workflow.
The object and portrait modes are particularly impressive, employing smart algorithms to distinguish between the subject and its background, which can be a real timesaver.
One thing I appreciate is the encryption feature. In a world where intellectual property is gold, knowing that your concepts are secured on your device brings peace of mind.
While SpeedCut may not replace more comprehensive photo editing software for complex tasks, it’s perfect for quick edits. It’s like having a little graphic design assistant tucked away in your Mac’s menu bar, ready to go whenever creativity strikes.
If you’re someone who values an efficient workflow and needs to produce trendy visuals on the fly, SpeedCut could be a valuable addition to your toolkit.
This app has received negative feedback on the Apple App Store, which is surprising because it functions quite well. However, it has garnered much better reviews on Setapp.
Below is a sample cutout by Speedcut that I made from a photo I took at Yellowstone National Park

Almighty

Category: Mac Customization and Productivity
Almighty is a robust tool for Mac enthusiasts looking to elevate their user experience. As someone who often finds themselves clicking through endless system preferences or Googling ‘how-to’s’ for simple tweaks, Almighty is like a breath of fresh air. It consolidates a ton of little adjustments that can truly streamline your workflow.
The ability to customize Dock settings is especially useful — making hidden apps semi-transparent has de-cluttered my workspace without losing track of what I have open. For developers using Xcode, those small-time saving features could be a game-changer, not to mention the potential headache reduction from not having your last project pop up every time you launch the application.
Finder adjustments are another win; being able to quickly toggle hidden files and see full paths without terminal commands is incredibly convenient. And while these tweaks might seem minor individually, it’s the aggregation of them that makes Almighty so valuable.
I haven’t even touched on the menu bar favorites — this is such a smart way to keep your most-used tweaks at your fingertips. No more digging through preferences or remembering keyboard shortcuts!

PDF Search

Category: PDF Tools / Productivity Software
If you’re in need of a robust tool to sift through numerous PDFs, PDF Search might just be your go-to solution. Its AI-driven search exceeds basic keyword matching by considering the context of your queries, which is a game-changer for efficiency and accuracy.
The NLP capabilities mean it understands variations of words, so searches are more intuitive and less rigid. The OCR functionality is a standout; it’s incredibly helpful for those who work with scanned documents or images with text.
The unified search experience across Mac and iOS devices is another plus, ensuring you can continue your work on the go. While the base app is free, the subscription model lets you choose how much you want to invest based on your needs — with options for monthly, annual, or permanent access.
The ranked results are a game-changer. It’s not just about finding information; it’s about finding the right information. This feature ranks your search results, so the most relevant information leaps out at you. Plus, it intuitively sorts newer documents higher up, saving you from sifting through outdated content.
Lastly, it’s more than just a PDF tool. With its ability to convert other document types into searchable PDFs, PDF Search ensures that all your important documents are readily accessible.
If you’re someone who likes to annotate as you go, the built-in reader with annotation tools will feel like it was made just for you. Highlight, underline, and take notes all in one place.
