My primary desktop computer is an M1 MacBook Pro laptop. It’s fast, stable, and power-efficient. But because it’s a laptop, it often doesn’t stay up all the time as it’s meant to be more mobile.
I use several Linux systems that run 24/7. My Linux systems are tucked away in the closet without any monitor attached to them.
Although most of my Linux systems are headless, one of them doubles as a Linux desktop running Ubuntu. I often use it to run GUI applications.

Remote Desktop

There are many ways to access the GUI Desktop on Linux, such as vncserver, but the fastest remote desktop app is NoMachine.
I’ve used NoMachine for several years now. The NX protocol that NoMachine uses is efficient — even over wifi. NoMachine is fast — it’s able to do live audio and video without lag.
You can share folders, drives, and devices on the local Mac with the remote hosts and vice versa. This includes printing from the Linux hosts via the Mac and vice versa.
NoMachine is available for Linux, macOS, Windows, iOS, Android, and Raspberry.
It’s a must-have utility for remote desktops.
